Charitable
Lead Trust
If you wish to make a substantial gift to the Foundation over a period
of years while ensuring that your property will ultimately return
to you and your estate, the lead trust may be an appropriate charitable
giving instrument for you.
Advantages:
- Obtain current tax deductions based upon annual payments to the
Foundation.
- Income each year to the Foundation is tax exempt.
- Upon death, or after a set period of years, the assets return to
you, your estate or your designated beneficiaries.
- This guarantees protection of assets to be passed on to your heirs,
children or grandchildren.
AN
EXAMPLE OF A CHARITABLE LEAD TRUST
Gerald was with a large amount of assets when his wife of 42 years
passed away. He has four grandchildren, ages 8-19. His two daughters
were provided for in his wife’s will. Gerald’s estate
will owe a significant amount of estate tax upon his death. After
consulting with his financial advisor and lawyer, Gerald decides to
create a lead trust that will pay the Foundation an annual sum for
15 years, and then pass to his grandchildren largely free of estate
taxes.
